Mid-Century Modern Patio Furniture
I’ve had this set of affordable outdoor furniture for several years now. I like it so much I ordered two sets, and you can see the other pieces on my deck-turned-catio.
Wood patio furniture gives you a modern look, but it may not handle the weather as well as other options in powder-coated steel or aluminum. It works best for a covered outdoor space, like under a pergola or deck.

My outdoor furniture did have some wear and tear you can see here. After this photo was taken, I ended up sanding and restoring this patio set with teak oil. It’s a great way to maintain your wood furniture as needed.
Here are some outdoor furniture sets to bring mid-century modern style to your patio, including options in wood and aluminum.

Retro Mod Outdoor Dining Sets
Dining alfresco is sure to give you those staycation vibes. The minute Portland dries out from our rainy winters, I dash outside for meals on the patio.

You can always dine at your outdoor loveseat and coffee table, but when you want a more formal or comfortable spot for summer meals, you may want to invest in a table and chairs set.
Here are some adorable options from retro to modern.

Cozy Lounge Chairs
Sun loungers remind me of sitting poolside in Palm Springs. I’ve already shared ideas for bringing those Palm Springs feels to your front porch, but the right lounger can also turn your backyard patio into a mini vacation.
If your patio feels like it’s missing a touch of fun, try a cozy chaise lounge or hammock.

Modern Outdoor Rugs
The outdoor rug is the piece that brings it all together. I debated between a practical neutral or a loud and colorful turquoise. Of course I can never resist turquoise decor, and I love how this modern rug completes the patio.

The rug ties in all the shades of turquoise, from my side tables to my pillows to the door. It’s made of eco-friendly plastic and should last a long time outdoors.
You might like the outdoor rug I chose or these additional options, including the neutral rug that was a close second.

Fun and Funky Patio Accessories
Adding the right accessories to your patio will transform it into a uniquely you space for enjoying an extended staycation. These retro outdoor side tables were on my wish list forever, and I finally picked them up this spring.

Since this patio is right outside my tiki bar, I decided to hang some tiki art to carry over the theme.

A cozy blanket and durable outdoor pillows invite you to kick back for a long afternoon of relaxation. Potted plants are a must-have. And the most important accessory: string lights.
Ideas for Your Patio Decor
Modern Patio Furniture and Decor

Loving what you did to your patio!! Looks so inviting and relaxing! And of course Turquoise is a perfect mid-century color (I always think turquoise, red or orange when I think of the 50’s and 60’s decor colors..;) You have really pulled it all together with the little tables and pillows and rug! Excellent job!! I can see you and Eric spending great times and many hours out there getting fresh air and enjoying your wonderful backyard! Maybe some day when this “stay at home” has passed we will get to enjoy it with you……(one can hope.)
Thanks Judy! I can’t wait until I can sit out on the patio and hang out with you again! Eric and I are enjoying it, having lots of alfresco meals and getting more backyard time now. 🙂
We were just talking about this! Come decorate my deck space, please, hehe. Our NC home has these gorgeous double decks that don’t connect (probably because of the bears), and sadly, they are 30+ years old. They need to be redone (I am guessing with engineered wood). Picture the emoji with the flying wallet lol. BUT, I love them so much, and we were recently talking about hanging Tuscan lights on the lower one (like the big ones you showcase here). I am dying to get a nice outdoor rug, too. We brought our pool patio furniture in from Florida, which has been great for a couch, chair, and loungers. With Stay At Home regs, it’s been the perfect outdoor escape. I loveeeee the pink table and chairs in this post. You made such a dreamy space.
I love your beautiful decks, and you’re always inspiring me to get more deck and patio time with your hammock and reading pics! I can definitely picture that flying wallet emoji, though. 😀 Decks can be so expensive to replace. I hope you can get a few more summers out of them! The string lights and rug will be gorgeous at your place.
I had been wanting to get a rug and side tables for my patio forever, and quarantining put me into a YOLO mood so I finally went for it. I really love that pink table and chair set too…I think I need to find a place for it somewhere in the yard!
Tara..when you guys finish the lower deck in your yard…”maybe” that would be a perfect place for the pink table and chairs…;) (just a thought!)
That’s a great idea! 🙂
Looks like the perfect spot to relax. We’ve been working on getting our outdoor space pulled together as well since we’ve been spending all our time at home now.
Thanks for the inspiration!
Thanks Prairie! Your yard is looking great! It’s been so nice having these mostly sunny days so we can get outside and enjoy more backyard time.
